Olympia Dukakis

The 89-year-old actress Olympia Dukakis started her career in the theatre and championed it by winning the Obie Award for Best Actress in her outstanding off-Broadway performance in Man Equals Man. Soon after, she shifted to films and first appeared in uncredited roles until she rose to prominence and cemented herself as an actress in Hollywood in the 1987 romantic comedy Moonstruck.

Her performance in the movie earned her an Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress, as well as other recognitions and nominations from other prestigious film production awarding bodies. She is also noted for her portrayals in the films Steel Magnolias, Mr. Holland’s Opis, Jane Austen’s Mafia!, and The Thing About My Folks. Her latest achievement is winning the 2019 Best Documentary Award at the Hunter Mountain Film Festival for her documentary film, Olympia.
