Harry Belafonte
Harry Belafonte is a renowned Jamaican American actor, musician, and activist. People primarily know him to be one of the most successful Jamaican American pop artists in music history. In fact, he is often called the “King of Calypso” for introducing the Trinidadian-Caribbean musical style to mainstream audiences worldwide. He is known for recording the extremely popular “Banana Boat Song.” He has won three Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award.
In 2015, a seizure caused him to retire but, amazingly, he soon came out of retirement to shoot a brief scene for Spike Lee’s award-winning 2018 film BlacKkKlansman. Good thing he had a good insurance policy for that incident. However, more than his work in the entertainment industry, he is also active as an activist and advocate for juvenile justice issues. He has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 1987, proving to us that he also has a good heart more than his talent.
